Projektbeschreibung:

Rekonstruktion der Landschaftsform und der Umweltbedingungen in Oberfranken.

Agricultural activity is generally related to soil erosion, which leads to colluviation and alluviation. The resulting sediments are valuable natural sediment archives and can be used to reconstruct former farming activities. The interdisciplinary project GOF – Geoarchaeology of Upper Franconia is investigating these sediments to elucidate the agricultural history of the small catchment of the river Aufsess. First evidence of soil erosion documented in colluvial sediments of the upper catchment go back to the Endneolithic period of the 3rd millennium BCE. Enhanced soil erosion from the Middle Ages are documented in alluvial sediments.
