Dr. Albert Cabré

Chair of Geomorphology

I am a geologist and geomorphologist with a focus on dryland geomorphology. I use field data and remote sensing observations to investigate the dynamics of arid landscapes worldwide, with particular emphasis on the Atacama Desert. For the past ten years, I have studied landscape responses to extreme runoff events and natural hazards in mountainous regions. My previous research has examined debris flows and their role in constructing alluvial fans, and I have applied integrated remote sensing approaches to understand landscape responses to runoff events across event-to-millennial timescales, among many other side projects.

My research sits at the nexus of geomorphology and geology and focuses on sedimentology and earth surface processes. At the Chair of Geomorphology, my work develops quantitative constraints on floodplain evolution and on the physical and chemical processes that control landscape evolution, with a particular emphasis on dryland regions. I aim to quantify sediment erosion, transport, and deposition, as well as their implications for human systems. To this end, my research integrates field observations, remote sensing, geochronological methods, and sediment analysis.
